Road Hurling

The annual road hurling competition was held on Bank holiday Monday, August 3rd. The winning team was Eanna O' Flynn and Anthony and Fionn O'Dwyer who covered the course in 37 shots. A big thank you to all who took part, the Bridge Bar for hosting the presentations and to all who helped with the refreshments. 

Juvenile notes

The under 16 hurlers played Carrick Swans in Newcastle losing out by 2 points. Newcastle players involved were Jason Hally, Oisín O'Dwyer, Jamie Grant, Eoin O'Keeffe, Maitiú McGrath, John McGrath, Pádraig O'Loughlin, Arron Kiely. The under 14 hurlers had a good win away to Fr. Sheehys/Ballylooby last week. The team included Jason O'Donnell, Pádraig O'Loughlin, Feidhlim Ryder, Arron O'Neill, David Kelly, Janis Sturkina. The under 12s have won 3 matches so far in the championship, beating Carrick Davins, Cahir and St. Patrick's. The players are Ciarán O'Loughlin, Tom Ross, Tiernan Cremmins, Tommy Kiely, Jack Kelly, Cian Slevin, Shane Taylor, Ronan Powell, Joshua McLean, Caleb McLean, Colm Kennedy, Tighe Guinan and Cormac Butler. The under 8s travelled to Rockwell Rovers for a three game blitz. Well done to all the players involved. Well done to Tom Ross who won the football skills competition at the Cúl Camp in Ardfinnan recently.

Sympathy

The sympathy of the club is expressed to the family of the late Lar O'Dwyer who died recently in England. Lar played with the club in the late 1930's and early 1940's before emigrating to London. A mass for the repose of his soul will be held in Newcastle church on Thusday, August 20th at 7.30pm. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Sympathy is also extended to the Lonergan family, the Bridge Bar and Clonmel on the death of Robert Hughes, Clonmel.  

Committee meeting

South Junior Football Final

The final of the junior football championship was played in Clonmel Sportsfield on Saturday evening last, July 25th. Newcastle started well and had the first point from Brian Sweeney. In the 13th minute a run from Caoimhín McGrath through the Ballingarry defence resulted in a penalty which was scored by Brian Sweeney. However, from then until half time, Ballingarry dominated and the scores were level at the break, 1-2 to 0-5. The game was very close all through the early part of the second half. In the 44th minute when Ballingarry were awarded a penalty, but, not for the first time in South finals, goalie Darren Goonan saved it. From there to the end it was point for point until Ballingarry scored a decisive goal with about 5 minutes to go. Final score was Newcastle 1-8, Ballingarry 1-12. The Newcastle team was Darren Goonan, Conor Grant, Shane Hickey (0-1), Evan Morrissey, Brian Hyland (0-1), John O'Halloran, Daniel Kennedy, Brian Sweeney (1-2), Diarmuid Devaney (0-1), Ger Corcoran, Vinny Carroll, Caoimhín McGrath, Andrew Fitzpatrick (0-2), Tommy Sweeney (0-1) and Paudie O'Shea. Sub was Barry Hickey for Ger Corcoran. 

Hurling Tickets

Tickets for the All-Ireland hurling semi finals in Croke Park on Sunday August 16th must be ordered before August 2nd. €10 tickets are available for the Davin Stand but 15 names are needed to obtain these tickets. €5 juvenile tickets are also available but these tickets are only in the Cusack Stand.

It is hoped that the annual road hurling competition which will be held on Bank Holiday Monday next, August 3rd. This is dependent, however, on South Board fixtures. Registration in the complex between 1 and 2pm. Teams of 3 costing €10 per person. Juveniles can also take part but there must be one adult with 2 juveniles. Cost for juveniles is €5. Please come along and support the club. Check the club website for confirmation.

The Junior A South football final between Newcastle and Ballingarry will be played in the Sportsfield in Clonmel on Saturday evening next, July 25th at 7pm. Come along and support the team in the final.
