A function was held in the Community Hall on Saturday night last, May 4th to celebrate the All-Ireland Scór title won by Sinéad Grant recently. Present on the night were Jim Enright from Clare, the Munster Scór Chairman, Seán Nugent, Chairman of the Tipperary County GAA Board, Noel Joyce, Chairman Tipperary Scór Committee, Tim Floyd, Secretary, Tipperary County GAA Board, Joe Brennan, Chairman, South Tipperary GAA Board, Mary Bourke, Secretary, Tipperary Scór Committee and Eileen Boland, Secretary, South Tipperary Scór Committee. All present were welcomed by club chairman, Michael Keating, who congratulated Sinéad on winning the All-Ireland title and presented her with a piece of crystal from the club to mark the occasion. Séamus McGrath acted as MC for the night and introduced the speakers to the large crowd who attended. All the speakers on the night also congratulated Sinéad and complimented the Newcastle club for its contribution to Scór down the years. The speakers also congratulated Noel Joyce and members of the JK Brackens set dancers who were present, who also won All-Ireland titles in recitation and Rince Seit. Also were present were members of the Newport Ballad Group who were All-Ireland finalists. To conclude the official proceedings, Noel Joyce recited his own poem, The day I scored the winning goal, and it was quite obvious why he became All-Ireland champion. Noel was followed by Sinéad who sang the song There were Roses which won her the All-Ireland and finally, Teresa Nolan, from the Newport Ballad Group also performed. Everyone present then enjoyed some refreshments and there was much reminiscing about Derry 2013 and 3 All-Ireland Scór titles. As Séan Nugent put it, it’s only May and the county has 3 All-Ireland’s already. Let’s hope there’s more to come on the playing fields.
