County Junior A Football Quarter-final

The junior A footballers qualified for the County semi-final by beating Inane Rovers under floodlights in New Inn on Friday night last, October 11th on the score of 0-13 to 0-8. After a tight first half, Newcastle led by 0-6 to 0-3. On the resumption, the Newcastle defence was under more pressure but defended admirably and did not allow Inane Rovers to the scores they needed. Team and scorers were; Darren Goonan, Niall Morrissey, Tomás O’Dwyer, Emmet Prendergast, Caoimhín McGrath, Shane Hickey, John O’Halloran, Conor Grant (0-1), Cormac O’Flynn, Barry Hickey (0-1), Brian Hyland (0-2), Michael Kennedy (0-2), Andrew Fitzpatrick (0-1), Brian Sweeney (0-5), and Daniel Kennedy (0-1, captain). Subs were Anthony Condon, Oliver Smyth, Ray Hallinan, James Lonergan Snr, James Lonergan Jnr, James Fitzpatrick, John McCarra, Johnny Hallinan, Emmet Hallinan, Michael Grant, Ciarán McCarra. Also involved are Diarmaid Devaney and Will Kennedy who are both out injured at the moment. The Newcastle team will face Drom & Inch in the county semi-final in New Inn on Saturday next, October 19th at 3.30pm. We would ask as many supporters as possible to come along and support the team and mentors as they aim to qualify for the county final.
