County Junior A Football Semi-final

posted 21 Oct 2013, 04:05 by Newcastle Gaa
The junior A footballers played their County semi-final against Drom & Inch in New Inn on Saturday last, October 19th. A very strong breeze was blowing straight down the field and Drom & Inch had the benefit of the breeze in the first half. At the interval they had established a very large lead which ultimately made it very difficult for Newcastle in the second half. Credit is due to all the players for continuing to try during that second half but the gap was too big to bridge. In the end Drom & Inch were victorious on a score line of 3-16 to 0-5. It was one of those days that everything went against the Newcastle players but hopefully they can finish the year with some silverware with the South final against Ballingarry to be played on the Bank Holiday Monday at 2.30pm in Clonmel Sportsfield. To win the South final 3 times in 4 years would be a great achievement for the players and mentors. Check the South board fixtures for details. Team and scorers were; Darren Goonan, Niall Morrissey, Tomás O’Dwyer, Emmet Prendergast, Caoimhín McGrath, Shane Hickey, John O’Halloran, Conor Grant, Cormac O’Flynn, Barry Hickey (0-1), Brian Hyland (0-1), Michael Kennedy, Andrew Fitzpatrick (0-1), Brian Sweeney, and Daniel Kennedy (0-1, captain). Subs were Oliver Smyth (0-1) for Emmet Prendergast, Johnny Hallinan for Cormac O’Flynn, Anthony Condon for John O’Halloran, James Lonergan Snr for Brian Sweeney and Ray Hallinan for Conor Grant. The remainder of the squad were James Lonergan Jnr, James Fitzpatrick, John McCarra, Emmet Hallinan, Michael Grant and Ciarán McCarra.
