Junior A Football Championship

The junior footballers played their fourth game out of five in this year’s championship against Clonmel Commercials in Cahir on Sunday, August 25th. In what turned out to be a very one-sided game Newcastle emerged victorious by 5-18 to 0-4. After a very fast opening, Newcastle led at half time by 3-13 to 0-2 and the game was all but decided. The second half allowed the management an opportunity to play a number of subs who will try to stake their place for the remainder of the championship. The team and scorers were Darren Goonan, John McCarra, Shane Hickey, Emmet Prendergast, John O’Halloran, Cormac O’Flynn, Caoimhín McGrath, Conor Grant, Diarmuid Devaney (1-2), Barry Hickey, Brian Hyland, Paudie O’Shea (0-3), Andrew Fitzpatrick (1-5, 1 free), Brian Sweeney (1-3, 1 free) and Daniel Kennedy (2-3). The subs were James Lonergan Jnr, Anthony Condon (0-1), James Lonergan Snr (0-1), Will Kennedy, Michael Kennedy and Michael Grant.
