Junior A Hurling

The junior hurlers contested the South Tipperary semi-final last Sunday in Monroe against St. Patricks. Having played with a strong wind in the first half, Newcastle led by one point at half time on a score of 0-10 to 1-6. Early in the second half St Patricks took the lead playing with the wind and Newcastle found it difficult to peg them back. A late goal by Eanna O’Flynn narrowed the margin to two points entering injury time but St Patricks added one more point to earn victory by a goal. Final score was Newcastle 1-13, St Patricks 2-13. Team and scorers were; Will Kennedy, Alan Cullinan, Shane Hickey, Conor Grant, Niall Morrissey, Barry Hickey, Emmet Prendergast, Brian Sweeney (0-2, 1 free), Tommy Sweeney, Daniel Kennedy (0-2), Diarmuid Devaney (0-4), Caoimhín McGrath, Johnny Hallinan, Tomás O’Dwyer, Andrew Fitzpatrick (0-5, 3 frees). Subs were James Fitzpatrick for Alan Cullinan, Brian Hyland for Tomás O’Dwyer, Eanna O’Flynn (1-0) for Caoimhín McGrath, Frank Hallinan for Tommy Sweeney, Lorcan McCarra for James Fitzpatrick.
