The club’s juvenile players had a very busy and very successful week. On Wednesday evening last, August 22nd, the under 10’s took part in a tournament in Goatenbridge involving Ballybacon-Grange and Ballylooby. Newcastle ended in second place and received the silver medals. The players involved were Ciarán O’Loughlin, Jack Rice Fitzpatrick, Yvonne Clancy, Stephen O’Connor, Jack Kelly, Tom Ross, Tommy Kiely, Max Zimmerman and Aaron O’Neill Heffernan. Thursday evening saw a challenge game at under 14 between the Newcastle/Fr Sheehys combination and Kilsheelan, which produced a great game of hurling. The Newcastle players involved were Jamie Grant, Oisín O’Dwyer, Jason Hally, George Forbes, Pádraig O’Loughlin and Eoin O’Keeffe. Friday night was the turn of the under 12’s who played Clerihan for the Michael Kennedy Perpetual Cup. After losing the cup last year, Newcastle produced a great display to win back the cup. A big thank you to Michael Kennedy for presenting the cup and medals for both teams. The Newcastle players were Ryan McCullagh (captain), Eoin O’Keeffe, Pádraig O’Loughlin, Dane O’Sullivan, David Kelly, Aaron O’Neill Heffernan, Tommy Tyler, Tadhg Devaney, Jason O’Donnell, Feidhlim Ryder, Jack Rice Fitzpatrick, Ciarán O’Loughlin, and Yvonne Clancy.
