Congratulations to Tommy Hally on being presented with a Sean Ghael Award by the Tipperary County Board last Sunday. Tommy played both hurling and football with Newcastle between 1950 and 1968, winning South titles in 1960 in Junior Hurling and the number 2 Junior Football. In 1958 Newcastle joined with St Marys, Clonmel to form the Pierce McCanns in senior hurling and they reached the South final against Carrick Swans in 1959. Tommy also played senior hurling in 1962 with St Vincents, a combination of Newcastle and Ballybacon/Grange. During that time, Tommy played senior championship hurling in 1950, 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1962. Tommy served as Chairman of the club between 1963and 1972 and in more recent times he was a member of the Club’s History Committee, which culminated in the publication of the history of the first 75 years of the club. Everyone in the club, and indeed in the village of Newcastle, would like to congratulate Tommy on his award and the recognition of the contribution he has given to the GAA in Newcastle and South Tipperary.
