The Newcastle GAA dinner dance took place last night. It was the first time, as far as I know, that we had our annual dinner dance two years in a row, and it was another great night.
As always the Parkview Hotel served up a lovely meal in a very efficient and timely manner.
Club Chairman Ian Longmore referred to the ambitious plans for the club, and he presented floral tributes to Ciara and Amanda as a token of appreciation for their work on behalf of the club. He went on to thank all of the various people who contribute to the ongoing success of the club in different ways. He also praised our girls Under 14 team and coaches for their success in the past season. He also with the help of Robbie O'Gara presented the LGFA Coaches of the year for the Under 14 Girls to Gillian Dunne and Ciara Doherty.
Outgoing manager of the adults men's team, Colly Yeoman, then said a few words about the past season before presenting the following awards.
Young Player of the Year Sam Johnson
Players Player of the Year Adam Farrell
Player of the Year Alan Daly
Club Person of the Year Robbie O'Gara
Considering the many potential candidates for each of the above awards, all four of the recipients deserve to feel very proud of their achievements.
There was no award for " Most Improved Player " but apparently , in his absence , Frank Magee was nominated.
Once the formalities were dispensed with , Big Digger started rocking and sounded as good as ever. They were followed by DJ Darren who killed off the remaining survivors into the early hours of Valentines Day.
Until next year ..............
Thanks to Tom Fanthom as ever for the detailed notes above and we look forward to his excellent match reports for the coming season.
