On Saturday morning, the girls had an early start as they travelled to Carlow to compete in a provincial tournament hosted by Eire Óg Carlow. The girls had a brilliant day, with music thumping from start to finish thanks to our resident DJ, Carrie-Mae! 🎶
The tournament was exceptionally well organised, from the opening parade right through to the volunteers who looked after everyone throughout the day. With 16 teams from across Ireland taking part, we were delighted to test ourselves against such strong opposition.
Unfortunately, the girls lost out in their semi-final, but they were fantastic all day. They had the opportunity to play against teams from all over the country, including Inch Rovers and Nemo Rangers from Cork, Tramore from Waterford, and Ballyroan Ladies from Laois. Thanks to all the teams for some highly competitive and enjoyable games of football.
With the temperatures soaring, the girls made great use of the ice chest filled with drinks and fruit, which proved to be a huge hit! ☀️🍉🥤
Ciara, Gillian, Rob and myself are incredibly proud of the effort the girls put in today. Most of all, their attitude was outstanding. They showed fantastic team spirit throughout the day and, regardless of the final result, we couldn't have asked for any more from them. They did their coaches and Newcastle LGFA proud, flying the Newcastle colours with pride. 💙💛
The day was rounded off with a well-deserved ice cream on the journey home. The 17 girls who made the trip should be extremely proud of their efforts and the way they represented the club.
