It was a hard fought battle from start to finish this evening up in Ballinakill for the U16s shield final. The Newcastle girls lead by captain Kate Kavanagh had to dig deep at times but came away with a well deserved victory in the end🏆🏆
In what seems to be a tradition in Newcastle we never do it the easy way. Halftime came which saw us down by 3 points but that didn't phase the girls who really fought hard to keep going kicking points to keep the score board ticking over after Aughrim stuck in a few goals directly before Halftime. We could pick out some big turning points in the game and the brilliant defending along with the few big goal line saves by Aaliyah really kept us ahead at a crucial time in the second half probably stand out the most.
I could pick 15 star preforming players this evening and there was so many girls that really fought tooth and nail to make sure we came away with the victory this evening from the goalkeepers to the forwards but to be honest Joni Long stood out tonight not only with some lovely scores but an unreal work rate from start to finish and as Joni is still U14s next year it makes it even more impressive 👏
